A modern version of the American flag, the Brave Star blanket is celebration of patriotism among Native Americans. Native Americans soldiers have played a significant role in the protection of our country. There have been many instances in United States history where true bravery has been carried out by some of our strongest warriors. In 1875, Native American scouts carried messages to various forts in the Western part of the United States. During the Roosevelt administration, Native American soldiers were Rough Riders in Cuba. Not to mention, the various tribes who were involved in World WarII, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Iraq and Afganistan. The medal of Honor for bravery has been given to five Native Americans for going above and beyond the call of duty in their mission to protect our country.
