Chief Joseph, Cardinal, ZD411-51119

Pendleton

This classic Pendleton® design was created in honor of Chief Joseph, one of the most respected Chiefs in Native American history. When the US goverment attempted to force the Nez Perce tribe onto reservations in Idaho, Chief Joseph refused. He led his people into Canada.  He was remembered for his amazing ability to strategize and he won many battles.   In 1877 he surrendered to save his people from a harsh winter with without food or warmth. This blanket has Native American symbols depicting characteristics of the Chief himself. Arrows pointing in all directions represent Mother Earth, as well as bravery. Celebrating the heroism of Chief Joseph, this is one of the oldest patterns in existence, first produced by Pendleton® in the 1920's.
